INSTRUCTIONS
APPLICATION TO CONDUCT
A CMP SANCTIONED MATCH OR CLINIC

A CMP-sanctioned match or clinic is an event hosted or sponsored by a CMP affiliated organization where match sponsors agree to use CMP Competition Rules in conducting their events and clinic sponsors agree to follow CMP standards for the conduct of clinics. CMP-Sanctioned Matches or Clinics may be offered for M1 Garand, Springfield, Vintage Military, Rimfire Sporter, M1 Carbine or other rifles. Please read these instructions prior to completing this application. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact the CMP Competition Support staff at 419-635-2141, ext. 1114 or croguski@odcmp.com

REQUIREMENTS FOR MATCH AND CLINIC SPONSORS. Organizations that sponsor CMP-Sanctioned Clinics or Matches must fulfill these requirements:

  1. Be currently affiliated with the CMP in “good” or “pending” status.

  2. Pay a $20.00 fee to the CMP for each sanctioned event. Sponsors may charge individual entry fees to match and clinic participants to cover their expenses in conducting the match or clinic. These entry fees are paid to the sponsoring organization and are retained by the sponsor.

  3. Attach a copy of a match or clinic program with the application when it is submitted. A program is a written description of the event with information such as an event description, date, location, schedule and course of fire, entry fees, etc.

  4. Conduct the match in accordance with current CMP Competition Rules. Copies of the rules may be downloaded free or printed copies may be purchased from CMP for $3.00 each.

  5. Provide qualified range officers, instructors, other officials, targets and other supplies as required for the conduct of the match or clinic.

  6. Obtain and retain on file a notarized Eligibility Affidavit and Liability Agreement for all match and clinic participants.  These forms are required by the federal law that established the CMP.

  7. Submit a CMP Sanctioned Match or Clinic Report and the scorecards of all competitors who fired in any sanctioned match, less the tear-off portions of the scorecards, to the CMP within seven days after the match.

CMP SUPPORT FOR MATCH AND CLINIC SPONSORS. To support your organization’s conduct of this match or clinic, the CMP will:

  1. Recognize the match or clinic as an event that is officially sanctioned by the CMP.

  2. Post information about your match or clinic in the Upcoming Events listing on the CMP web site. This is to help other interested shooters find out about matches or clinics that they may wish to attend. You can check the CMP Competition Tracker home page at http://clubs.odcmp.com or you can go directly to the Upcoming Events list at http://clubs.odcmp.com/matches

  3. Provide scorecards (free of charge) for use in sanctioned matches.

  4. Offer ammunition for use in the match or clinic at discounted prices.

  5. Provide certificates of Achievement to distribute to participants.

  6. Authorize your organization to purchase CMP Achievement Pins to award to competitors in sanctioned matches.

COMPLETING THE APPLICATION FORM. The information given below is provided to explain items that must be completed on the application form.

  • CMP Name and Number. All shooting clubs, state associations and other organizations that apply for CMP-sanctioning must be CMP-affiliated organizations whose current status is either “Good” or “Pending.”

  • Type of Event. The CMP sanctions clinics that teach individuals about safety and marksmanship, matches or competitions and events that offer both a clinic and a competition. Be sure to specify the type of event you plan to conduct. If an event offers both a clinic and a match, the CMP Upcoming Events listing will list it under both matches and clinics.

  • Type of Rifles. The type of rifles that will be fired or used in clinic instruction are important information to include in your Upcoming Events listing so that interested persons can determine whether to attend.

  • Clinic with CMP-Certified Master Instructor. The CMP began conducting Master Instructor training courses in April 2006. If your clinic will be taught by a CMP-certified G-S-M Master Instructor, please check the box and list the Master Instructor’s name. The fact that your clinic will be taught by a Master Instructor will be noted in your Upcoming Events listing.

  • Dates. List the exact date(s) on which the clinic or match will take place.

  • Location. Give the name of the city where the clinic or match will take place. This is important information for persons who are trying to find clinics or matches in their area and will be listed in your Upcoming Events posting.

  • Course of Fire. A sanctioned CMP Games Match is a competition where competitors fire a standard course of fire in a CMP Games events. List how many record shots will be fired in your competition event:

    • John C. Garand Match, 30 or 50 shot course of fire

    • Springfield Rifle Match, 30 or 50 shot course of fire

    • Vintage Military Rifle Match, 30 or 50 shot course of fire

    • Rimfire Sporter Match, 60 or 30 shot course of fire

    • M1 Carbine Match, 40 shot course of fire

  • Event Contact Person. Your sanctioning application must include the name and contact information for the member of your club who will be the person match competitors or clinic participants can contact to obtain information and register. The contact person’s name, phone number and email address will be listed in the “Information” page of the CMP Competitor Tracker Upcoming Events listing for your clinic or match. If the contact person does not want a personal phone or email listed on the CMP web site, please list a phone number or email address that can be used to obtain information about your event.

  • Club Web Site. If your club or organization has a web site that provides information about your club and its upcoming activities, please provide the web site URL and it will be listed on the “Information” page of the CMP Competitor Tracker Upcoming Events listing for your match or clinic.

  • Packet Mailing Address. If the scorecards, certificates and other materials to be shipped to support your CMP sanctioned event should be shipped to an address that is different from your Contact Person’s address, provide that information here.

  • Scorecards. The CMP provides scorecards for all CMP-sanctioned events that include matches. Estimate the number of scorecards required for your match; scorecards must correspond with the type of clinic or match being conducted. The scorecards are perforated and the tear-off portion of the scorecard is to be retained by the match sponsor or the competitor. Scorecards must be returned to the CMP after the match. Those scores will be posted in the CMP Competitor Tracker system so that a complete results bulletin for your match will appear on-line within a few days after your scorecards reach the CMP. Match sponsors may use this on-line score listing as an official results bulletin in lieu of producing a printed results bulletin that must be mailed to competitors. The CMP no longer requires match sponsors to make a printed bulletin and send it to the CMP. Just send your completed scorecards, less the tear-off portion, as soon as possible after the match.

  • Ammunition. .22 smallbore and .30-06 ammo are available for purchase at special prices from CMP for use in CMP sanctioned matches and clinics. Check the appropriate box to indicate the type of ammunition requested. The CMP will notify you regarding the amount and total cost of the ammunition that may be purchased for your event. The amount available at these special prices must correlate with the anticipated number of participants in the clinic or match being conducted.

  • Certificates. The CMP now provides certificates to be awarded to persons who complete a clinic with a range firing activity or a match in advance so that clinic and match sponsors may complete the certificates and award them at the conclusion of the event. Again, please estimate the number of certificates that will be needed for your event. Sanctioned clinic and match sponsors are honor-bound to award certificates only to individuals who attend the instruction and complete the range firing activity in the event.

  • ECIs (Empty Chamber Indicators). CMP Rules now require the insertion of ECIs in all rifles on ranges where sanctioned events are conducted at all times except when rifles are on the firing lines during preparation and firing periods.

  • Gold, silver and bronze CMP Achievement Pins may be purchased by sanctioned match sponsors to award to competitors in Garand, Springfield , Vintage Military, M1 Carbine and Rimfire Sporter Matches.

  • Achievement Pins. The CMP Achievement Award Pins are modeled after the very popular National Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle and Carbine Match Achievement Medals that are presented to competitors when they fire predetermined “cut” scores in those matches. Affiliated clubs can also obtain CMP Achievement Pins to award to competitors in their matches. Achievement pins may be presented to competitors if they equal or exceed established achievement award scores that are listed in the CMP Competition Rules (see Rules 9.2.4, 9.3.4, 9.4.4 and 9.5.4). Gold, silver and bronze achievement award scores are determined by the DCM on the basis of previous years’ scores in these events. Achievement scores are calculated so that approximately the top one sixth of the top 40% of all shooters receive gold medals, the next two-sixths receive silver medals and the remaining three-sixths receive bronze medals. Sponsors of CMP-sanctioned matches may purchase gold, silver and bronze achievement pins at a cost of $1.00 each to award or sell to competitors in their matches who attain these award scores. Match sponsors that would like to purchase Achievement Award pins to award at their matches should indicate the number of type of pins they wish to order. Payment for the pins can be included with your payment of the $20.00 match sanctioning fee.
