I can’t say enough about the ordering and delivery of my “correct grade” M1 Garand rifle through the “Civilian Marksmanship Program”. If I did I would only be repeating all of the glowing tributes already stated. It was a completely painless transaction. I do wish to compliment “CMP” for commissioning the writing of the best “owners manual” I have ever read with regard the safe handling, storage, transportation, and shooting of this firearm. This booklet is easy to read, well laid out, with eye catching warnings and is laced with humor in appropriate places, such as the description and prevention of the phenomena known as “M1 Thumb” which has commonly occurred while loading the M1 Garand. The safety sections of this booklet should be required reading for all firearms purchasers. The author should be commended. Most sincerely  Dave E .

I'm a collector of historic military weapons, particularly those from the WWII era. I was finally able to order a field grade Garand from CMP last month. What I received was exactly what I wanted, a vintage WWII rifle complete with battle scars and evidence of lots of use. With a SA receiver manufactured in 1940 it is possible this weapon saw action in two wars. And yet it is still mechanically sound and capable of accurate delivery round after round -- a testament to the quality of John Garand's creation. Thanks to CMP for keeping these bits of history alive. Now if this sucker could only talk! David G. Bowling Green, KY

I received my ammo shipment today, thanks for the fast response. I was amazed at the condition of the cartridges when I opened the first can. I wasn't sure about spending the money on surplus ammo of unknown age without seeing it but I am very happy with what I saw. This ammo looks like it came out of the factory yesterday, and cheaper than what I have to pay for 30-06, and other ammo, here in Hawaii. I will definitely order more. Hope you don't run out before then, but from looking at the pictures on the website you have a pretty big warehouse. Thanks, Craig

Dear Sirs: I just wanted to write and thank you for the terrific service I have experienced with CMP. I ordered an M1 in mid September. The rifle arrived about a week later. I have taken it out already several times to the range and it is a real pleasure to shoot. My teenage daughters have recently begun to take up shooting as well, in part because of this acquisition. The rifle is a beautiful weapon and real piece of living history. Thanks not only for your assistance to me, but for your efforts in maintaining this worthwhile program. Sincerely, Edward J. R.

You probably get hundreds of communications and I hate to burden you with one more but please pass along to your team how thrilled I am with your service. I received my order yesterday, which was only days after I sent in my package, and could not be happier with my M1. My son and I have already begun to research it's origins and history and his interest in the weapon, as well as my military experience, has been peaked by the knowledge that this piece was manufactured prior to the end of WWII and could have seen service in two wars. You provide a great service to those of us who want to help our children understand the importance of our military in the history of our country. Again, please pass my thanks to your staff. Very Respectfully, John P.

Thank you, CMP. I recently mail-ordered two Rack Grade M1s. This was the first time I'd mail ordered from you (previously I have purchased from Camp Perry), so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. What I got was expeditious, excellent service and two beautiful rifles. Only 8 days from dropping the letter in the mail to two brown boxes arriving at my door. As far as what was in those boxes well, they're really 'diamonds in the rough' as Rack grade, but never the less, I'm extremely happy with them. I am looking forward to ordering again…and hoping that an Anniston store opens sometime soon! Thanks again, and job well done!

You look at some of the letters here at Customer Comments/Feedback, and you wonder if these are made up, all are so glowing with praise. I have to add my glowing praise now. I got an e-mail that the gun was coming, after it arrived! Now talk about fast!!! To top it off, I had asked, if possible, since this was the first M1 I ever ordered, bought, etc..., for it not to be a clunker and maybe be a shooter. I knew that this might be a tough request since there are many guns and many customers, BUT WOW, DID YOU FOLKS DO RIGHT BY ME! All those in our gun club who have seen it, love it. I think this will generate a few orders and some more work for you there at Anniston, now. Thank you for taking the time to care about one order of many. Kam M . Carthage, IL.

I would like to express my appreciation for your excellent service and for the very nice M1 SA FG I received. I dropped my order in Priority Mail on 9/13/05 and the rifle arrived by FedEx on 9/20/05...one week from order to delivery. Amazing. If only most retail businesses were so efficient. I am looking forward to getting acquainted with my M1...my basic was with the M-14...and sharing it with my old Dad. He is 81 now and not in the best of health, but as a young US Marine, he carried one ashore at Kwajalein, through the Marshalls and Marianas, and at Guam during WWII...he will be pleased. Bravo Zulu. My order of 415C ammunition arrived short. I sent an email notification to customer service on Friday, 16 September, received email response on Saturday, 17 September, and received the missing part of my order on Tuesday, 20 September. Excellent response and excellent service. Thank you for the prompt attention to this matter. Richard M .

Just wanted to provide some positive feedback on the CMP auction system. It is truly impressive to see the quality of material that is being offered by the CMP. Where else can one find historically significant US firearms whose pedigree can reasonably be assured. It is truly exciting to be able to participate as a bidder in a process that is fair, open and honest. The biggest benefit is that the proceeds fund a very worthwhile program which encourages and improves marksmanship in our nations youth. I may not be able to be the winning bidder very often but knowing where the proceeds go encourages me to dig a little deeper. Keep up the good work.
Very respectfully,
Dan Hoey LCDR USN

Sir/Madam: I am impressed with your service. On September 6, I received an email informing me that an M1 would be shipped that afternoon and I could expect delivery within twenty-four hours. The gun arrived 9AM the next morning. I took the rifle to a gunsmith to have it checked over be I fire it. While in the shop, I received several compliments on the appearance of the gun. I left the gun and will pick it up soon. I suspect that it is operable.
CMP has demonstrated to me that it is an efficient and well run organization. Patrick C.

You are truly a customer service oriented organization, which in this day and time, is a rarity! The M1 was here so much faster than I expected. I appreciate being given the opportunity to own a part of history. The condition of the rifle was much better than I had expected. A special thanks to Janet for sending back my only copy of my birth certificate that I had left. It is these little things that make your program stand out. Thanks again for everything. God Bless America! Justin U.

CMP, I'm in total shock! I mailed my new buyers paperwork and order on Saturday at 1300 hrs. Today (Thursday), after work, I walked into the house and there leaning against the kitchen cabinets was a big brown box. I can't believe it only took 3 business days to process my new application. I threw it on the table and opened it up. Fantastic! There lay my first M1 (field grade). After a quick look over and function check, you have one happy customer. I'm saving up for my M1903A3 now. Just why can't we get quality and service like yours from everyone? You set the standard. Thanks, Tim W. USAF, MSgt-Retired

September 14, 2005

Just a note (late, of course) to thank you for keeping this program alive.  I have rec'd a rack Dane M-1 and an 03A3 in the last 2 mo. Both were quite nice. I shall come back for more. Thanks, James M.

I want to thank all of the people of the CMP for the great service that I received and the beautiful SA SG M1 that arrived at my door less than two weeks after I placed my order in the mail. Thank you for being so patient and helpful with this troublesome customer. Thank you again. Patrick in Louisville.

September 08, 2005

I recently purchased one of your Kimber 82 Govt model rifles. I'm very pleased with the rifle. Nice wood no cut and a good shooter to boot. All my contact with the CMP has been very pleasant and professional. Thank You. David W.

All I can say is WOW!! You guys are GREAT!! I submitted my order form about 3 weeks ago and was notified via email last night that my M1 receiver has been shipped. The receiver was delivered to me this morning...talkin about fast service, this is awesome! I really appreciate your allowing me to hand select a serial number range...you guys nailed the serial number I needed right on the head. Thank you! I am a customer for life. Brandon M .
