Having received my second US Rifle today was a great thrill.  My first was an M1 Garand, Springfield Service grade, from the DCM in 1985.  Yesterday, I was notified that my Underwood Service grade M1 Carbine would be delivered at 10:30, 29Sep.  At 10:47, 29Sep, Fedex arrived with my package.  My order went in on July 20, a wait of just over 2 months.  The rifle was in great shape, new wood and great parkerization.  It could not have been better.  Communication with the order staff was plentiful, keeping me informed throughout.  Since ordering this rifle, I have placed orders for 2 M1 Garands.  Hope springs eternal!  Thanks to the staff of the ODCMP for keeping these rifles, a link to our American past, alive and well-  Tom K.

Although I have read these forums for years, I finally decided to join. This is my first post. This is a very late thank you to the gunsmith in the CMP trailer at the National Matches this past summer. My bolt broke on my "03" while shooting rapid fire prone @ the Springfield Match on Friday. I didn't get to the repair trailer until approximately 6:30pm. When I arrived, a lady told me it was closed. As I turned to leave, a fellow coming up the stairs asked why I was there. When I explained the situation, he told me to come right in. My bolt was fixed in 15 minutes, including new parts. I asked what the charge was & he told me it was "free". This is why CMP stands out. Friendly, courteous employees & volunteers. They really make you feel part of a "shooting fraternity". Although I don't know his name I again give a big thank you & see you next year.

Dear CMP, Just wanted to extend my deepest appreciation. I received my M-1 Garand last Friday, and the ammunition. The rifle was in excellent shape and fired extremely well. As to the CMP Personnel with whom I have spoken with over the past two and half months... I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. Each time, they were courteous and extremely helpful. I was recommending CMP to folks before my M-1 arrived, now I fervently recommend your fine services to all who ask, "hey, is that a M-1 Garand? Where did you get it?"! so again thank you all very, very much. And look forward to stopping in the next time I pass anywhere near Anniston, AL. Sincerely, SFC William K.

Wanted to write you and express my appreciation for the fine Springfield "Special Grade " M1 that I received yesterday.  This was my first purchase experience from the CMP, and I was extremely impressed by your communication all the way through the process, via email in my case.  All questions were answered quickly and efficiently, I always felt like I "knew where my order was"...and the payoff was the magnificent rifle, which has clearly been built by people who know and love their work.  Thank you for being such fine caretakers of these true pieces of American history!   Todd S.

I made my first visit to the South Store today(9/24/09) and enjoyed it very much. Besides getting to look at all of the Garands and carbines, I enjoyed talking to the armorers and the other customers. Also, the entire staff, especially Leon, were very helpful and great to work with. Of course, I left with some goodies, a Springfield M1 and a Winchester carbine. Even my Italian Greyhound, Enzo, who rode shot gun enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the road trip. I will definitely plan another visit to the South Store. Chuck F. Philadelphia, TN

I received my second SA SG last week and have cleaned and shot it and cleaned it again. I still can’t get over how beautiful these weapons truly are. Especially one that has a CMP stock, not to mention how well it has been fitted. You folks in the back, Gunsmiths, wood workers etc., do not get enough praise. I am a retired USAR MSG 63Z which is Maintenance and logistics, so I think I am qualified to say this. You do fantastic work! Thanks for sending me such a nice pair of rifles!

September 22, 2009

I received the 30 cal. ammuntion last week and my M1 Garand rifle yesterday.  They were both in excellent condition. I hadn't handled an M1 since 1966 but handling this one brought back many memories.  It is amazing and I am very pleased with it.  I can't wait to get out to the range to fire it. Thanks CMP.  You have a customer for life. H.A. S. Edinburg, Texas

I received my CMP M-1 Garand this morning and I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am with the rifle.  The quality and condition were well above what I expected.  It's truly beautiful! You folks are doing a great job. Thank you very much. N. N. Spring, TX

Ladies and Gentlemen, I recently received the two CMP Special Garands that I ordered.  I could not be more pleased.  The two rifles are magnificent -- they look like they just left the factory! It was a pleasure dealing with your staff.  I had several conversations with Vicky concerning the shipment of my completed rifles and she handled the logistics quickly and efficiently. I had previously bought ammunition from CMP but this was the first time that I purchased rifles.  The process was quick and painless.  The process was as described and I received regular e-mail updates as the order proceeded.  I wish that all of my transactions went this smoothly. Thank you for the great products and your great service. I look forward to doing business with you in the future and I will be recommending your organization to my friends! Sincerely, Howard B.

Thank you for the quick service.  I recieved my M1 this moring and it is great condition.  In fact it is a nicer rifle than I was issued when I was in the Army in "61".  My son and I will enjoy shooting this historical weapon.  Thanks again.  A very satisfied customer, Guy U.

Dear CMP, I received my M-1 in mid August and my carbine 2 weeks ago.  The M-1 was in excellent shape; the carbine had a few dings.  I just completed restoring the carbine stock and it looks great.  Last Sunday, I took my son and the M-1 out to the range and sighted it at 100 yards.  It fired very well and was able to get a nice group after 8 rounds.  I fired expert with the M-1 in the Marines and firing it this weekend took me back 46 years.  I think we were the last series at Parris Island to fire the M-1 before the M-14 took it's place.  Thanks so much for my opportunity to own a piece of history of this wonderful country.  Bill O.

September 15, 2009

Dear CMP, I received my M1 carbine last week and am very pelase with the rifle and your service. The nice lady that called to tell me my original choice was out of stock gave me the option to go to a with a dofferent maker and she came through very well for me. Thank you. I am also very pleased with the SA SG Garand I received in June. Keep up the great job you do! Thank you.  Lee J.

Kudos to your hard working staff.  Your CMP customer service staffers were just great at keeping me informed about the status of my ill-fated attempts to purchase low numbered M1903s and successful attempt to obtain a  woodless Garand.  Having tried without success since mid-November '08 ( I know, I should have started sooner) to purchase one each low numbered Springfield and Rock Island barreled actions, and then, when informed they were sold out, a low numbered Rock Island w/ scant stock.  And then when told that they, too, were sold out, a low numbered Springfield w/ scant stock.  And then (yes, they were also sold out) I finally settled on a rack grade woodless Garand since the purchase paperwork had already been processed and I've got enough HXP ammo.  The woodless Garand came today and it's just what I was looking for as a project gun.  The muzzle wear and throat erosion gauge numbers are appropriate for the age of the barrel (1952) and it might very well make a fine shooter once I get the stock and other furniture for it.  Please convey my thanks and appreciation to your staff for the hard work they all do on our behalf.  -Bill, Annapolis

Dear Civilian Marksmanship Program Staff,  I received my M-1 Garand and ammo yesterday September 11th. As a New Yorker, a Retired NYPD Police Officer and a former US Army Infantry Officer I was occupied with the memorial services but today I opened the boxes and I am very satisfied. I thank you folks at CMP for doing such an excellent job.  Sincerely and respectfully,  Gary G . Brooklyn NY

I just received my M1 Garand from you and it is beautiful. Thank you so much for making a dream come true. My father fought across Europe with a rifle like this in WWII and while I know this isn't the gun, it is to me. It's a great gun to fire and will become a family heirloom forever. Thank you for running a fantastic program and helping to keep one of our country's great legacies alive.  John N B.

I ordered my M1 Special Grade on 29 June, got an e-mail reply of my order being processed on 2 July and on 2 Sep I received my Special Grade M1, WOW only 60 day wait.  Let me tell you the rifle looks amazing, like it was just made yesterday.  I'm looking forward to shooting this weapon, I was going to buy some ammo at the store until I read that you shouldn't shoot modern ammo through this rifle.  I'm still waiting for the ammo I ordered from CMP, until then I'll try and find some 150gr ammo.  Let me tell you I'm a Marine and I would have no problem taking this weapon into combat, it may not hold 30 rds however people don't get up after being hit with a 30-06.  CMP thanks for this fine rifle and piece of history look forward to doing more business, I'm thinking of buying a rifle for both my son's. Christopher H.

It was a wait that seemed longer than it really was, but my service grade Springfield M1 arrived last week...and I couldn't be happier.  What a beauty! It is exactly as described with a few dings and scratches here and there.  The upper handguard is a shade just slightly lighter than the rest of the stock, but who cares.  Over the Labor Day weekend, I took it to the range.  Right out of the box, with no adjustments to the sights, it put 16 holes that could have been covered by the mouth of a small dixie cup in a target at 50 yards.  Wow.  I can't wait to see what it'll do when I really take my time and sight it in.  I did have occasion to talk to two ladies at the CMP prior to shipping and they couldn't have been anymore pleasant and helpful.  They were great.  The CMP still practices good old customer service...at its best.  Thanks to all.  John H.,   Sinking Spring, PA .

Another trip to the South Store today. Is it possible that the staff is given "nice/helpful" pills when they come to work ?, Big group of "shoppers" today, lots of rifles going over the counter, and EVERYONE of the staff is friendly ,helpful, efficient.....! Thank You to everybody !!  John

I'm writing to say,  man am I getting anxious for my M-1 to come up for shipment !  I received my M-1 Carbine in May,  after a wait of 90 days and have shot it numerous times since.  Now I'm waiting on my notification of  order movement from Customer Service,  I know I'm a pain in the rear,  but just can't help it ! Thanks for putting up with me !     Daniel Steven B .

I received my Special Grade M1 Garand on September 28, 2009.  It is an outstanding piece.  It looks like a brand new rifle that just came out of a packing crate from the manufacturer.  I researched the serial number and this receiver was manufacture in December of 1942.  That makes it almost 67 years old!  I don’t know how you made a 67 year old rifle look brand new, but thanks.  Mauricio S.  Deputy Sheriff

You doubtless know the M1 Garand is an iconic firearm to the generations who used it and the subsequent generations who have seen the image of it in movies and television dramas. I am very happy with the CMP M1 Garand Springfield special I recently received. Your gunsmiths did a very fine job and as advertised it looks brand new. Even during this financially challenging time, it is worth the price to be able to preserve some of the history that was so central to the 20th century. Thank you and your organization. T.Z.

I just received my M-1 Garand and could not be any happier. It looks like it was just ran down the production line. I still cannot believe it looks this good. My father-in-law is jealous and is most likely going to order himself one. It shipped out in 90 days and I was notified one day it shipped and the next day my wife signed for it. Thanks to you and your staff. They are doing a great job! I will keep you all on my listing for future purchases. Again, Thanks you all so very much! Daniel S.

I knew at 8:40 when I tracked the BWT that it would show up the second I took my sons to school. I left a note to the driver saying I would be back in 5 minutes, that my kids school is literally 2 blocks away. I took them and returned to the house and checked the website only to find that delivery had been attempted. I was literally gone 5 minutes. I walked out front and heard what could only be a large truck around the corner, so I ran. I chased him about 5 blocks before he stopped. He had read my note and said he was going to come back after a nearby drop off. So now I'm out of breath, sweating and staring at this beautiful piece of American history. I couldn't be happier! I've been wanting an M1 for years, but I could never justify the expense until this year. I had requested a "shooter", since I will be using this rife for hog eradication at our deer camp, so we'll see how it shoots. The wood appears to be in good shape. Its got some character, I really like the dings and nicks. T.C.

My thanks to all of the Staff at the CMP. I started with a drill M1 Garand. Boy what a piece of junk. (I thought when I saw it). The barrel was welded to the receiver, the barrel was plugged, the firing pin was missing, the bolt welded, the gas plug welded to gas chamber, the but plate was worn through and the stock was full of dirt.   I started my research and learned about the rifle. I was able to cut the barrel from the receiver and remove it. The receiver was In very good condition. I inspected the parts and replaced anything that was worn. After a good Parkerizing of the parts, a new barrel, a new stock and several small worn parts and a lot of work, this rifle looks and shoots like a new one. I learned from this rifle. I can Parkerize parts replace a barrel, headspace and troubleshoot he M1 Garand. I now have twelve rifles that I would take into combat, if they would take a 75 year old Man. Without your help and service I could not have accomplished any of this.  There is nothing remarkable about this except that I am combat disabled and have lost the full use of both hands and both feet. I only have one thumb and one finger on each hand that is useable. MSG Dallas W . USAF (Ret.)
