On-Line entry in National Trophy Pistol Matches. Last year, the CMP took Small Arms Firing School entries online through our new Competition Tracker system—it worked great. This year, you can enter all CMP National Matches events online, including the matches and schools. If you plan to shoot in this years Pistol President’s or Pistol National Trophy Individual Matches, you can enter them online now through the CMP web site. Just open the CMP Competition Tracker at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi. Click on “Upcoming Matches and Events,” select National Trophy Pistol Matches “Information” and follow instructions to submit your entry and pay your fees. Or, if you prefer, you can complete and mail the CMP Pistol Entry Card that will come out with the National Matches mailing the NRA is sending out this month. |

National Trophy Pistol Matches. The 2004 National Trophy Pistol Matches will take place on Sunday, 18 July. The matches will again include the 40-shot President’s Pistol Match, the 30-shot Pistol National Trophy Individual Match and the 4 x 30-shot Pistol National Trophy Team Match. The official program is being mailed by the NRA this month and should arrive in your mailbox within the next few days. If you do not receive this mailing within the next two or three weeks, contact the CMP Competitions Department, 419-635-2141, ext 1132 or 1123; email competitions@odcmp.com. Match operations this year will be similar to what they were in 2003. The CMP and NRA will each handle the entries and results for their respective matches. The CMP will continue to utilize the services of the NRA range officials and volunteers who will conduct firing on the ranges. The only difference this year is that entries in the NRA matches must be sent to the NRA, while all entries for the CMP National Trophy Pistol Matches must be sent directly to the CMP and not through the NRA. |

EIC Matches Now Posted on CMP Web Site. If you log on to the CMP Competition Tracker site, http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi, and look at “Upcoming Matches and Events,” you will find a complete list of all upcoming Pistol EIC Matches with contact information for those matches. If you check “Competition Results,” you will be able to check the scores from EIC matches that have been completed. The CMP is just now in the process of setting this system up, but our ultimate goal is to make it possible for shooters who compete in EIC matches to be able to check the results and the lists of EIC credit point winners for matches they fire during the days immediately following the match. To make this work, the CMP is now asking all EIC Match Sponsors to send scorecards for their EIC matches just as soon as possible after the match and not later than seven days after the match in any event. |

2004 Pistol Small Arms Firing School. Many of you received your introduction to the National Matches by attending a Small Arms Firing School. If you know someone who is thinking about getting started in pistol target shooting, why not encourage that person to go to Camp Perry and attend the 2004 Pistol Small Arms Firing School. Please let anyone in your club or community who might be interested know that all they have to do to register and get more information is to log on to the CMP web site at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi. |

Junior Pistol Matches. Last year, we changed the junior pistol trophies from service pistol awards to awards for juniors who fired Standard Smallbore pistols. The result was an encouraging increase in junior participation. The same rules will apply in 2004. The special high junior award in the President’s Match, the Junior Trophy in the National Trophy Individual Match and the Junior Team Trophy will all be awarded to juniors who fire Standard Smallbore Pistol (.22 rimfire). Junior teams will again be two-person, not four-person teams. When juniors enter the matches, they must be sure to enter the junior events. Any juniors who wish to contend for President’s 100 honors or Pistol EIC credit points can still shoot the service pistol and compete in the senior category events. One of our goals is to get more juniors participating in pistol shooting. We encourage all of you to invite juniors to practice and compete with you as you prepare for the 2004 National Matches and to bring one or more junior pistol shooters with you when you come to Camp Perry—if you bring two juniors, they can compete as a junior team in the National Trophy Team Match. |

Pistol National Trophy Matches Award Ceremony and Reception. The CMP award ceremony is scheduled to take place at 6:30 PM on Sunday evening, 18 July, after the National Trophy Pistol Matches. The CMP will host an informal reception in the Petrarca Range covered firing point starting at 5:30 PM. The ceremony will begin with the presentation of the newest class of shooters who have earned the coveted Distinguished Pistol Shot Badges and continue with the presentation of the National Trophies for pistol shooting. Plan to attend this impressive ceremony. Remember, any of you who earned your Distinguished Pistol Shot Badges since the last National Matches and who want to be recognized on stage during the award ceremony must bring your badges to Camp Perry and must contact CMP Competitions staff before the ceremony so they can be sure your name is in the list of shooters to be called on stage. |

CMP Competition Tracker System and Results Posting. The 2003 National Trophy Pistol Matches were the first big test for the CMP’s new Competition Tracker and the system worked as planned. During last year’s President’s, NTI and NTT matches, we posted scores on the CMP web site, within 30 to 45 minutes after they were fired, and had hundreds of people around the country checking scores during the matches. National Trophy Pistol scores fired during the matches on 18 July will again be posted on the Internet. Tell your shooting club, team members and family members that they can watch National Match results on the Internet by logging on to the CMP Competition Tracker at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi. |
