Robert Steketee Wins 2011 As-Issued John C. Garand Match in Tie-Breaker over John Hefner - CAMP PERRY, OHIO – Robert Steketee, 61, of Haslett, Michigan, won the 2011 John C. Garand Match in a 3X tie-breaker over John Hefner, 28, of Gilmer, Texas, on Saturday, 6 August. Both shooters fired 292, just missing the match record set by Kurt Palmer (293-6X) in 2009. Steketee broke the X-ring 11 times to Hefner’s eight to decide the match.

Inaugural Army Strong Collegiate Shooting Championships slated for March - By Michael Molinaro, USAMU PAO, FORT BENNING, Ga. — The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit is excited to announce that the inaugural Army Strong Collegiate Shooting Championships, on course to be the biggest multiple-discipline, shoulder-to-shoulder gathering of collegiate and junior shooters in the history of competitive shooting, will commence next March 13-18 here at Fort Benning. USAMU, Fort Benning to host Paralympic World Cup - FORT BENNING, Ga. — Fort Benning, in conjunction with USA Shooting, will host the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Cup USA October 3-9 at the home of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. This event will be the largest Paralympic shooting event on American soil. Paralympic shooters from around the world will travel to Columbus, Ga., for the opportunity to win quotas to the 2012 Paralympic Games. 2011 Camp Perry Pistol Day Two - Kent Stonecipher, Oklahoma City Firearms Examiner - After arriving at Camp Perry yesterday from Oklahoma my traveling companions and I picked up our Civilian Marksmanship Program and National Rifle Association competitor packets. Since we don't start firing until tomorrow today's a day to get our equipment ready, have triggers weighed to verify that they meet safety and competiton requirements and check out what's for sale at the CMP North Store and Commercial Row. Some of the vendors will be here throughout the matches while others are present for only a particular phase. It's always interesting to see the rotation and who's new each year. DeMille Wins Springfield, Langham is Tops in Vintage Military & Rutherford Takes GSM Top Gun Crown - CAMP PERRY, OHIO – Dennis DeMille, 46, of Oceanside, California fired a rare 100-4X in the standing stage of the 2011 Springfield Rifle Match, winning the event and setting a new record in the process. DeMille’s 297-8X aggregate score toppled the former record of 295-6X set by Douglas Armstrong last year. DeMille, a former U.S. Marine rifle team member, fired a 98-2X in slow-fire prone, and a 99-2X rapid-fire prone in addition to an outstanding offhand stage.

IN MEMORIAM – KARL KENYON, rifle accuracy gunsmith extraordinaire and a resident of Ely, Nevada for 91 years, passed away in Sandy, Utah, on 29 July 2011, at the age of 93. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and saw action in both France and Belgium. After the War, he designed and began building the "Kenyon Trigger" that came into popular use with many of the finest target rifle shooters in the USA and the world. His passion for rifle accuracy led to a lifelong career as a high precision gunsmith who crafted rifles that were used by many great shooters to win countless national and international championships. IN MEMORIAM – CLINTON LOVELL JR., passed away unexpectedly on July 19. Clint was a NRA Life Member, NRA Coach, NRA Instructor (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Range Safety Officer), GSM Instructor, RI Hunter Education Instructor, and long-time Camp Perry volunteer. He was a member of Wallum Lake Rod and Gun Club, Harrisville, Rhode Island. Clint was an avid competitor in the Rhode Island State High Power League and ran the CMP program at Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club for many years, bringing many new shooters, both young and old to the range. He leaves behind two sons, Kurt and Kole, their wives and many, many friends and associates who will miss him dearly. |

Jenks Wins National Trophy Individual Rifle Match Tyler Rico Tops NTI Junior Field USAMU Praslick Captures National Team Trophies - CAMP PERRY, OHIO – Air National Guardsman, SSgt Leigh Jenks III, 37, of Underhill, Vermont, won the 2011 National Trophy Individual (NTI) Rifle Match on Tuesday, 2 August with a near-perfect score of 498-24X out of 500 possible.

Rifle Small Arms Firing School Draws 615 Participants; Brian Williams Tops EIC Competitors with a 394-12X - CAMP PERRY, OHIO – Brian Williams, 37, of Granby, Massachusetts, wasn’t the only shooter who was happy with his score at the 2011 Small Arms Firing School Excellence-In-Competition match, but he had reason to be the happiest, firing a record-setting score of 394-12X.
