CMP Employee Retires After 12 Years of Service. Pat Gittinger, who joined the Army’s Director of Civilian Marksmanship staff in 1992, retired from the CMP in November after twelve years of service. She was one of a group of ODCM employees who were transferred to the new CMP when Congress privatized the program in 1996. Pat served in a number of functions at the CMP including National Matches housing management, public relations, customer service, human resources, protocol, National Matches in-processing and meeting planning for the CMP Board of Directors. One of the most important jobs Pat performed was to represent the CMP as an Ambassador and Board Member for the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce. With her retirement, Pat hopes to spend more time with her husband, as well as visiting her children and grandchildren. The CMP expressed its gratitude to Pat at a retirement dinner in her honor. In her response, she said, “I have had the honor of meeting many wonderful people in different walks of life as a result of my employment with the CMP. Please accept my profound gratitude and thanks for this opportunity and I wish good health, good fortune and God's blessings to all.” 4-H Shooting Sports Youth Enrollment. Statistics released by the U. S. Department of Agriculture Extension Service show that 126,040 youth are currently enrolled in 4-H Shooting Sports club programs. Shooting ranks as one of the most popular of the many 4-H activities. U. S. International Shooting Hall of Fame. Each year tens of thousands of visitors to the U. S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado pass through the U. S. Olympic Shooting Center where they see plaques honoring an elite group of American marksmen and markswomen who have been named to the U. S. International Shooting Hall of Fame. USA Shooting, the national governing body for Olympic shooting, administers the selection process, which now takes place every fourth year, after the Summer Olympic Games. They have just announced the nomination of two new Hall of Fame members, Launi Meili and Joe Berry. Meili won a gold medal in women’s rifle in the 1992 Olympic Games to culminate a distinguished competition career where she won numerous international and national titles. Today, she is the coach of the University of Nebraska Rifle Team. COL Joe Berry, USAR (Ret.) managed the USAR shooting program for many years and served in numerous leadership capacities that culminated in his serving as the Team Captain of two USA Olympic Shooting Teams as well as several other USA international teams. The formal induction of the new Hall of Fame members will take place at the 2005 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. Gary Anderson Invitational Entries. The Gary Anderson Invitational junior rifle competition will take place at Fort Benning, Georgia at the Army Marksmanship Unit ranges on 19-20 November and 3-4 December. A few entry spaces are still available. The match program and entry forms are posted on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/3P/GAI.htm. CMP Auction Site Down Indefinitely. Eastern Nebraska Gun Club Makes a Difference - On October 23rd, the Eastern Nebraska Gun Club in Papillion, Nebraska recently held a match based on the course of fire for the CMP Games John C. Garand Match…however, there was one twist. While most clubs require some sort of entry fee to help cover range costs, the cost of targets and the cost of ammunition if it is provided, the guys at the Eastern Nebraska club did something different – they asked for toys.
