WHAT CMP is DOING!CMP Competitions Update 12/19/03
TO: 2003 NATIONAL TROPHY MATCHES COMPETITORS
THANK YOU. This message comes at the end of a very
special year in the history of the CMP and National Matches. On behalf
of the CMP, I want to express a sincere thank you to each of you for
participating in the 2003 National Trophy Rifle and Pistol Matches or in the
2003 CMP Games competitions. This year's matches not only were the
Centennial National Matches, but they were the biggest Nationals since 1990.
Their successes could only happen with your support. Again, thank you!
2003 NATIONAL TROPHY MATCHES BULLETIN. For the last
four years, the CMP has concluded its part of the National Matches by
publishing a souvenir results bulletin with final results, photos and stories
from the matches. The 2003 bulletin has just arrived from the printers.
The CMP is mailing a bulletin to every 2003 National Matches competitor this
week. If you do not receive your copy in the next few weeks or if you
have suggestions for next year's final bulletin, please contact the CMP
Competitions staff at 419-635-2141, ext. 1123 or 1132 or email to competitions@odcmp.com.
Now that we have completed the implementation of our Competition Tracker
software, we expect to be able to move the 2004 bulletin publication date up
to September.
NATIONAL MATCHES CENTENNIAL. We also want to thank you
for your support of the 2003 National Matches and CMP Centennial activities.
The cover of the National Matches bulletin that you will receive in the next
few days is based on the painting that the CMP commissioned to commemorate the
Centennial. The original now hangs in CMP North headquarters, but
posters of that painting are still available if you did not get one.
They can be ordered for $14.95 each through the CMP E-Store at http://www.odcmp.com/Services/estore.htm.
2004 NATIONAL MATCHES PLANNING. We can report that
plans for the 2004 National Matches are already well underway. We are
looking at several developments to make next year's matches better. Next
year's match results will continue to be posted online during the matches by
using our Competition Tracker software. In 2003, you could enter the
Small Arms Firing Schools and USMC Junior Clinic on line through the CMP web
site. Next year, you will be able to enter any National Trophy Matches,
including the Garand, Springfield and Rimfire Sporter Matches online.
Arrangements are not complete on this one, but we think we will be able to
offer a special M-16 EIC match where shooters who do not have any EIC rifle
credit points can compete for "introductory" four-point legs using
issue M-16 rifles from the Small Arms Firing School. We're also working
on a scheduling innovation that would allow all Garand Match firing to be done
on one range and be completed earlier than in previous years. We'll get
the word out as soon as we can if we are successful in these efforts. If
any of you have recommendations to consider in planning the 2004 matches,
please get them to the CMP Competitions Department.
CMP COMPETITION RULES. We are also in the process of
considering recommended rule changes in preparation for printing the 8th
Edition 2004 CMP Competition Rules. Any recommendations that you have
for rule changes or clarifications need to be received by the CMP Competitions
Department by the end of the year (Competitions@odcmp.com).
We wish all of you a great holiday season and hope that all of your goals for
the 2004 shooting year are achieved. We look forward to welcoming you
back to Camp Perry for the 2004 National Matches and all of the unique
shooting activities associated with the matches.
CMP Update 12/12/03LAKE CITY SURPLUS M2 BALL NOW AVAILABLE FROM CMP. After several years of effort, the CMP has been successful in securing the transfer of a sizeable amount of linked M2 Ball from the U.S. Army. A condition of the transfer was that all links and tracers be removed and demilled and only the M2 Ball rounds sold to members of CMP affiliated organizations. CMP has contracted with TALON for the delinking and the first of many truckloads was received by CMP this week. This ammunition is packaged 20 rounds per box, 12 boxes per can, 4 cans per case (960 rounds per case). Cases we have opened have all been LC-72. Mail order sales are by case lot only. None are in original configuration. There are a very few manufactured by Winchester and Remington, most are Eddystone. The Remington 513-T model is bolt action, target stock, 27 inch barrel, 6-shot magazine fed rifle. Rifles are sold without sights and slings and many are missing sling swivels. These rifles were received from the Army without magazines and magazines are not available through the CMP. These rifles are returns from ROTC and other U.S. Army marksmanship programs. Rifles are used and show significant wear. Wood is rough and will require some work by the purchaser. Metal finish is fair to good, but some scratches, worn finish, and minor pitting may be present. Rifle bores may show lead fouling. Overall condition of the rifles ranges from 60%-80%. All rifles are U.S. property marked (scribed, not stamped). There are approximately 1,000 of these rifles in current inventory and we expect demand to be high. Beginning on October 1, 2003, only club orders will be processed. Individual customers may submit their orders now, but we will not begin entering them into our system or processing them until November 1, 2003 - assuming that some are still available for sale. Because of customer demand, we are taking the ESTORE live today and will provide more detailed instructions for use at a later date. The system is based on users email addresses and passwords. Everyone is considered a new user and will have to log in and get a password assigned. When entering for the first time go to the left side of the screen, click on the login button. Enter email address and click on 'forgot password'. System will assign a password for future use. NOTE: our store is still under construction and not all photos or items have been loaded. NOTE: U.S. citizenship and affiliated club membership is required for all purchases of military surplus items, to include parts and ammunition. ESTORE will check customer records for this information and will not process orders if the CMP does not have this information on file for customers. Please bear with us on this. System is designed to allow customers to manage their own accounts and check the status of their orders on-line. We will offer these options over the next few months.
CMP Update 03/24/03M1917 Enfields Sold Out. CMP Update 03/21/03Club Carbine Sales Suspended. Effective March 24, 2003 the CMP is temporarily discontinuing carbine sales. Although there is still a large quantity in inventory, recent experience has shown that the remaining carbines require inspection and repair to prepare them for sale. Many are missing rear sights, have broken stocks or handguards, or other defects. Sales will resume when the carbine inspection & repair program is completed. Since most carbine repair parts are not currently available in CMP inventory, we expect it will be several months before carbines are again offered. Any orders for carbines received after March 24, 2003 will be returned.
